On Sunday 26th you can arrive any time during the day. Once you arrive you be part of a cultural exchange so you can get to know where you are and learn local words or see how local staple food is prepared.
Monday the 27th is the official launch day where you will meet the Uganda Marathon Foundation Team in the morning and then visit Masaka town. You will go to the central area charities, markets, local stores and others. In the evening everyone will meet up at a place we call “the glade” that is at the Athletes Village for drinks and food. There is a local dance group for entertainment.
Tuesday 28th will have an up-cycling theme. You will go to a local vocational school and build all kinds of things from local plastic waste. All of the runners’ creations are later dispersed to local schools and centres. It is good fun, building bottle dispensaries and rubbish bins and you will get to bond with project beneficiaries and leads as you build together. Each item built has been hand chosen by projects and is targeting a specific need that will require creative team work to accomplish.
Wednesday 29th is all about visiting projects. You will be split into groups based on the local charities you have chosen beforehand. You will a visit your project to get up close with those you are helping. There will be an activity waiting for you and you will learn more about what the funds you raise achieve. Really engaging with the project and seeing the legacy you will leave behind in Masaka.
Thursday 30th is called “Kids Run Wild”; it’s a sports day! Bouncy castles, footballs, volleyballs, music and mickey mouse join the runners plus the 300 kids on a hilltop for fun and games. This is great fun and especially good for the younger runners. They get to meet children their age but there is lots of fun for all age. In the afternoon the runners visit Lake Nabugabo for a swim as well as fish and chips local style!
Friday the 31st is rest day before the Marathon on Saturday. You will be free to join a nature walk, visit the town or rest that morning. In the afternoon there is a big pasta party for all to enjoy.
On Saturday the 1st the Marathon begins! By 10 A.M all the different run categories have set off and there is music all the while, local music artists are on show and the runners who finish are free to go freshen up and rejoin the party as they wait for the rest to finish. In the evening there will be a huge closing party where you will receive your medal.
On Sunday the 2nd you will be driven to the airport or you can carry on to a safari. The Marathon and Ecologia offers safaris for those who wish to enjoy Uganda for a little longer. There is a choice to go gorilla trekking – track a family band of wild Mountain Gorillas in the Ruwenzori Impenetrable Forest, Safari in Murchison Falls / Queen Elizabeth National Park – come face to face with Lions, Elephants, Leopards, Giraffes, Hippo, Zebras, Rhino, Buffalo & more!

Anything from a couple of hours to a couple of days will be welcomed. The children are ready to meet you!
