After a rather average four months studying in Voronezh, I wasn’t entirely sure whether or not returning to Russia was the best way to spend the summer holiday. However, I’m glad I took the leap. Ecologia support you through the entire application process, and from the moment you arrive in Orion, people are ready to […]
Orion is a completely unique experience, in which you are able to submerge yourself in Russian culture. You will learn so much about working with children, language, self-sufficiency and living in a community. Just be open and ready to join in with new ideas and experiences. And be friendly because the children there are some […]
In April 2017, a small group of 6 pupils from Sevenoaks School travelled to Orion, our first trip there after several successful previous trips to Kitezh. The welcome was remarkably warm, as always, and our pupils relished the opportunity to meet the children and adults, and to integrate into village life. One highlight was the […]
Volunteering in Meru is a great opportunity for me to get down in the dirt, do things with my hands while at the same time discovering more about myself and who I want to become. I love the combination of helping the local community, fostering environmental care and being a centre for amazing conferences and […]

Volunteering in Russia was eye opening, to be completely immersed in a different culture taught me about a way of life that was as foreign to me as I was to them and I would not trade that experience for anything.

I gained some long lasting friendships! And I got to understand rural Russian life. My language skills improved for sure. Through living with and getting on with local people every day, my perception of Russia became more comprehensive.
I had a really great experience. The help with preparations leading up to the trip was fantastic and once I got there I was made to feel very welcome. My Russian has vastly improved, thanks to living with a family and playing with children who speak very quickly! I have learned about Russian family life […]
