Migrant workers in Thailand are poorly paid and face exploitation at the hands of employers and the security forces. Up to 3 million migrants, many undocumented and mostly from Myanmar, fall into this category.
In Thailand, many people look down upon ethnic minorities from Burma even though some of them were born on Thai soil. Migrant children and youth are often exploited and deprived of social and educational opportunities that would improve their standard of living. Many of them have limited access to education, are stuck in exploitative working conditions or forced to work in the worst forms of child labour, as beggars, or in the sex trade.
