Russian Language Intensive Courses
An Opportunity for Beginners and Intermediate Students
9 June 2022 – 7 July 2022 month-long
(2 groups at different times during the day)
In summer 2021 we are offering intensive Russian Language courses at Beginner and Intermediate levels. The month-long courses will be held at Orion Children’s Community, within a small, intimate community giving plenty of opportunity to practice conversation and interact with the members and their children. Maximum five people in each group.
Volunteers who have signed up for 2-3 months can include 2 weeks 13-26 June in their volunteering period.
How is this different from all the other Russian Language Courses on offer?
Two weeks of Intensive Lessons, 4 hours per day. Overall you receive 40 hours of lessons with highly skilled and enthusiastic teachers who has been members of the Kitezh-Orion communities for several years. Yulya Lyubimtseva is a philologist, specialised in Russian Language and Literature. Zhenya Ryazhskaya has a Teaching Russian as a foreign language diploma, and loves teaching. They will give you individual attention and expert tuition in Russian Grammar, Language and Literature.
Lessons are followed by 10 days of integration: living with families in the community. You can join in the daily activities in Orion, working alongside Russian speakers to improve your language skills. You can spend time playing with the children, helping out in the kitchen or garden and working on the ongoing building projects. In the summer, students from around the world come to volunteer at Orion so there is a fun and active group of young people there. Evenings are bound to include singing around a bonfire, Russian style.
The Russian Language Course was definitely the highlight. Yulya is an exceptional teacher – very kind, patient, intelligent, and extremely knowledgeable, and really good at explaining the complicated grammar rules. The classes were very well structured, including the grammar tuition which we needed but also many exercises which expanded our vocabulary, practiced our speaking and also enhanced our translation skills. And the fact that the groups were really small is very good for fast learning since it allowed us to speak a lot and to get a lot of attention from the teacher.
3 days in Moscow at the end of your stay is an option.
If you wish to stay on for up to 2 months longer as a volunteer, either at Orion or at Kitezh, you can easily do so. In that case, you can arrive few days earlier to acclimatise.
