Food Supplements for Sky Is The Limit Children’s Centre

2 May 2019 Leave a Comment

This April, we have sent €500 worth of e’Pap Porridge to our Sky Is The Limit Children’s Centre in Uganda.

e’Pap is a “high energy vitamin and mineral enriched” food supplement which has been developed to tackle Africa’s food and nutrition crisis. The belief is that a balanced diet is a key factor in fighting against malnutrition, poverty and disease.

Pre-cooked maize, Soya proteins, vitamins, minerals, and the optional flavours of Vanilla, Strawberry or Banana are combined to create an affordable, nutritional Porridge for those who don’t have access to a balanced diet or have a compromised immune system. No cooking is required to make the Porridge, it is simply mixed with water, milk or yoghurt.

Whether or not children are well nourished during their first years of life has a profound effect on their health, ability to learn, to communicate, think analytically, socialize effectively and adapt to new environments and people.

Many of the children attending the Sky Is The Limit School walk long distances to school without breakfast. This makes it very difficult for them to concentrate at school, with some pupils dropping out as a result. Some children at the School have parents who cannot afford a pack lunch, so they steal from the other children to survive. Although Ecologia has been providing support for school lunches to address this, e’Pap gives additional supplement to the children who have the greatest need.

In 2016, thanks to a wonderful donation of €500 from Roberto Savio, we were able to provide e’Pap to 17 children at the Sky Is The Limit School for 2 months. The Porridge helped the children by:

 Giving them the energy to concentrate in class and cope with the demands of the day.
 Improving their health over time, particularly those living with HIV.
 Reducing visits to healthcare facilities from 15% to 8%.
 Increasing the children’s weight: there was an increase of 20%.
 Alleviating skin problems, reducing absenteeism through sickness and escapism, and
developing social skills as the children eat together with other children.

“I would like to thank the school for providing e’Pap to us because it has improved my concentration in class. I am sure to pass my final end of term examinations in 2016.

When I took my weight at the beginning of the term, my teacher told me that I was under weight for my age. She weighed me again after the first week of taking e’Pap and it had increased from 21 to 23 kg! I’m very sure that miracle was done by the special e’Pap meal I eat from school.”

Mr Savio, seeing the importance of e’Pap to the lives of the children we support, again donated €500 to Ecologia this month. We sent this to Sky Is The Limit School so that they can provide this vital food supplement to the children at the School. If you would like to help support the children at the Sky Is The Limit Children’s Centre, please donate what you can.

Thank You!
