* Flagman - a home for two families at Orion: To keep pace with the increasing number of foster families wishing to join Orion, we built one more house this year for Masha and Anton Kuzmin’s family. They have 6 children including 4 foster children, their own child and a child on a rehabilitation programme. The aim is to make this house a training centre for potential foster parents who want to stay in Orion for a probation period with a view to becoming a foster family. It is almost ready for winter - just £4,000 needed to install the heating system.

Through Global Giving Challenge we raised over £8,500 from 123 donors to complete the new foster family home at Orion Children's Community! To continue your support click here

* For the farm: This year we finished construction of the barn at Orion. We have a horse, 11 goats, 3 pigs, hens, and rabbits. Next year we want to have a cow and a flock of sheep and to increase the number of hens to provide our children with organic eggs, milk, cheese, and meat. Just £2,000 will help us to achieve all that!

* For the school: Workshop equipment for arts, sports, dance, sewing, cooking, carpentry, and play therapy. Workshops are important to help our children learn basic skills to help them tackle difficulties at home and during lessons, learn to concentrate, acquire patience, pay attention
to what they do and how they communicate. £3,900
Science laboratory equipment £3,000
Interactive Projector £1,000

* For safety: Fire extinguishers and fire alarms for all houses to meet official fire safety requirements £1,600

* Respite Holidays for children: to send 45 children on a summer holiday by the sea. Cost £4,500.

David Dean consultation pageTraining our Young Professionals

We have started a fund for the foster parents and teachers of Kitezh and Orion to receive training and professional development. This will include training at other similar therapeutic communities in the UK through the Charterhouse group, attending Eco-village training and other programmes at the Findhorn Foundation. These trainings enable them to return to Kitezh and Orion refreshed and re-inspired, with new ideas and skills.

Roma Simukov writes about his Findhorn Ecovillage Training experience: "I am immensely grateful for my trip to Scotland. I returned to Kitezh full of new energy and new ideas! I gained a new perception of the world through real-life communication, contact with the nature and traditions of a new place, through contact with new friends from all over the world, through challenges and overcoming my fears and lack of confidence."

* Education for our teachers: We are supporting one of our bright foster mothers, Maria Shurova, to take a post graduate degree in Psychology to prepare her to train and support foster families from all over Russia. With this education she will be qualified to develop the adult education potential that the new Education Centre will provide. Cost £1,500 per year for 3 years. Total £4,500

Youth Exchange 2009 pageYouth and School Exchanges

Are you a school or youth group interested in broadening the minds of your students through exchange visits with Russian students?

We offer groups of teenagers the chance to spend two to three weeks at Kitezh taking part in our Summer Camp with a guided tour around Moscow and perhaps a visit to the 'Golden Ring'. In exchange you may like to host up to ten of our young people in your own country.

If you are interested in providing an invaluable experience for your students and ours, please email us info@ecologia.org.uk

We run volunteer placements throughout the year, with a recommended stay of three months. It is a really rewarding experience and an excellent place to improve your Russian! For more information, go to Volunteer in Russia.

Perhaps you can only visit for a short time, or are a God Parent to one of the children and would like to experience Kitezh for yourself. We can arrange shorter visits. Please contact us for more information.info@ecologia.org.uk
