Dato today – a shining light for the disabled youth of Georgia!

Dato loving kayaking page It has now been a year and a half since Datuna – or Dato as we call him now– had his life-saving spinal operation, thanks to all of your generous donations!

And he is already a dynamo for social change in Georgia, challenging people’s perception of disability.

Even before Dato went home to Georgia, he had been making the most of his newly found movement in Scotland, by engaging in every sport he possibly could – archery, tennis, and kayaking..

In fact, he so impressed the local sports development officer, Lewis Patience of Loch Canon, that Lewis has gone to visit Dato back in Georgia to see how he can support the potential sportsman in the future.

Who knows, we may even have a future para-olympian on our hands!! We’ll keep you posted...

From sports, to future study, to creating a support network… anything is now possible for this bright and inspiring young man.

So this is of course not the end of Ecologia Youth Trust and Braveheart Georgia’s journey with Dato. We intend to be nearby to support not only him, but all those who follow his example.

Just look back at the original appeal video we made for Dato on this page... We've come so far already!

And he has started attending school - He will of course face some challenges at school, in particular access issues because of his wheelchair.

But he has a new support group in ERTAD, a Georgian Disabled Organisation, run by the inspiring Giorgi Akhmateli – a new friend of Dato’s – who campaigns tirelessly for greater integration of disabled people into society.
